I needed three attempts to make it from the beginning to the end of Running on Empty. Looking back on the decades, I see clearly how the experiences of my childhood have shaped my sense of belonging. Reading this book, it became apparent that I didn’t even feel like I could belong to the Group of People Who Have Experienced Childhood Emotional Neglect.
